Fabrizio Ravanelli’s managerial career cannot hold a candle to his 90s pomp, but the Italian believes he can help revive the fallen French giants.

Former Juventus and Middlesbrough star Fabrizio Ravanelli believes he is ready to rescue fallen French giants Marseille.

The former Italy international spent two seasons with L’OM from 1998-2000, during a distinguished playing career in which he scored over 200 goals during spells at the likes of Juventus, Lazio, Middlesbrough and Derby County.

However, Ravenelli has limited coaching experience and was most recently sacked by then Ligue 1 side AC Ajaccio in 2013 just four months into the season after a brief spell in charge of the Juventus B team.

Despite his lack of experience or success in a managerial role, the 47-year-old believes he can revive 1994 Champions League winners Marseille, who finished a dismal 13th in the French top flight last season.

“I would like to return as a coach, it would be fantastic,” Ravanelli told Le Phoceen. “I hope someday Marseille will tap on my door and I’m sure that I would do a good job there.

“Marseille is my town. I would love to return one day, as soon as possible, even!”

Despite inevitable misgivings about his suitability, Ravanelli is adamant his difficulties at Ajaccio have been overblown, pointing to an impressive victory against PSG and a draw with Lyon.

And the 22-time capped Italian international believes he has learned from his experience, and will draw upon a range of influences if given the nod to coach one of France’s most illustrious sides.

“I went to the biggest clubs, such as Chelsea, Juventus, City, Bayern, the Italian national squad, and I studied my methods with Ancelotti, Guardiola, Mourinho, Conte,” he said.

“I have learned much, and today I am ready to lead a big club.”
