Liverpool welcome Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United to Anfield looking to stay top of the Premier League table.
Jurgen Klopp expects Newcastle United to ‘fight like crazy’ in Saturday’s Premier League clash against high-flying Liverpool at Anfield, speaking in his Friday afternoon press conference.
With four wins out of four, 12 goals scored and just three conceded, any doubts about whether The Reds could continue how they left off last season have been emphatically dispelled in an outstanding start to 2019/20.
So few are expecting anything except a heavy defeat for Steve Bruce’s Newcastle during Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off on Merseyside, even if The Magpies looked much improved during a draw against Watford and an eye-catching 1-0 win away at Tottenham.
Klopp, however, is determined not to underestimate a team who they only beat in May thanks to a last-gasp Divock Origi header.
“Newcastle will fight like crazy, like they did against Tottenham for example,” said Klopp, who will always have a respect for those who give 110 per cent in search of a result. “They’ve had a couple of good results now.”
“It’s really strange that (despite having) 20 per cent possession at Tottenham, they deserved the three points. With this 20 per cent possession hey did a lot of good stuff.
“It will be a real challenge. We will need that atmosphere again (from the crowd).”
A repeat of those backs-against-the-wall heroics at St James’ Park before the international break represents Newcastle’s best hope of a first triumph at Anfield since Steve Watson’s winner in November 1995.
But Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett and co proved in North London that they can keep out even the very best opposition in Bruce’s new-look 3-5-2 formation.
