Premier League chasers Liverpool have been heavily linked with Napoli’s Serie A star Insigne but is the Italian forward heading to Anfield?
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has played down speculation linking the Anfield giants with a move for Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne this summer, in quotes reported by Goal.
There has been plenty of speculation about the 28-year-old’s future in recent weeks amid claims that Napoli president Aurelio Di Laurentiis is willing to cash in on his star man.
And Liverpool have been the team most heavily linked with a player who scored a Champions League winner against the Reds in the group stages last year. La Repubblica claimed in January that the Premier League challengers were preparing a bid of around £61 million.
Corriere dello Sport, meanwhile, suggested on Wednesday that the 5ft 4ins Italy international is interested in the idea of working under the charismatic Klopp.
But, speaking ahead of Friday’s clash with already relegated Huddersfield Town, Klopp has admitted that Insigne is unlikely to join this summer – although he is a big fan of the skilful little winger.
“We will not sign Lorenzo Insigne. He is a very good player but he has a long-term contract at Napoli (until 2022). We will not even try it.”
Insigne has scored 13 goals and provided seven assists for Napoli this season but where would he fit into a Liverpool side with arguably the most feared and well-established front threes in world football?
