Manchester United sacked Jose Mourinho in December and replaced him with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho admits that he wishes Manchester United had given him the sort of backing Jurgen Klopp has enjoyed at Liverpool during his ill-fated spell in charge of the Premier League giants, while speaking to BeIN Sports (1 May, 7:00pm).
Mourinho spent two-and-a-half years at Old Trafford but his reign was dogged by criticisms over a perceived negative style of football and rumoured divisions with his playing squad.
The legendary Portuguese coach still won two trophies at Manchester United however, three if you count the Community Shield.
Klopp, by contrast, is yet to celebrate a single title during four years at Liverpool despite reaching the finals of the EFL Cup, Europa League and Champions League at Anfield.
Despite these high-profile failures, the affable German has avoided the sort of criticism that became synonymous with Mourinho from inside or outside the club – something the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss is at pains to point out.
“I would love to go to a club and be in conditions to do what Jurgen did,” Mourinho said.
“If you look at the [Liverpool] team that started the game, how many of them were there when Jurgen arrived? A couple.
“When Jurgen is in the club and wins absolutely nothing for three-and-a-half years and he still has the trust, still has the confidence, still has the conditions to try to keep going and going.”
Mourinho, who was sacked by United in December, frequently claimed that the club was failing to back him in the transfer market while Liverpool were paying huge fees for the likes of Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk.
Mourinho, however, did sign Paul Pogba in 2016, breaking the world transfer record at the time, while making Alexis Sanchez the best-paid player in United’s history.
