Premier League strugglers Crystal Palace sent Jonny Williams on loan to Sunderland last summer, but he’s started just seven Championship games.

Jonny Williams is one of the few players in Sunderland’s limited squad with the technique and vision to create something out of nothing.
And he knows Chris Coleman well too – the former Wales boss frequently getting the best out of this diminutive little midfielder at international level.
Unfortunately, however, Williams hasn’t been able to lead a survival push under Coleman on Wearside – because the injury problems that have dogged the Crystal Palace loanee’s career continue.

Williams has made just 12 Championship appearances all season, and was forced off after just half an hour as Sunderland slumped further into the relegation mire with a damaging 1-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon.
And it seems that supporters have now ran out of faith in a player whose chance to make an impression away from Crystal Palace have been left in ruins.
So at the age of just 24, Williams could be caught between a rock and a hard place. He hasn’t started a single Premier League game since Crystal Palace’s promotion to the top flight in 2013 and has spent most of the last few years on loan at the likes of Nottingham Forest, Ipswich Town and MK Dons – during which time Williams hasn’t really proven that he deserves a chance at Selhurst Park.

As it stands, his contract is due to expire in the summer of 2019 and a missed opportunity at Sunderland hardly boosts his chances of forcing his way into Roy Hodgson’s plans.
