Wolverhampton Wanderers’ January plans could just have suffered an unwelcome blow.

Because left-back Jonny Castro Otto suffered a medial ligament injury 51 minutes into Spain’s 1-0 friendly win against Bosnia and Herzogovina on Sunday night, according to Marca, meaning he could be on the sidelines for some time, depending on the severity of the injury. As a result, Wolves’ transfer plans may now be up in the air.

Just last week, the Birmingham Mail reported that the Midland giants had made signing Jonny on a permanent basis their top priority in the January window.

The 24-year-old full-back has impressed at Molineux since arriving on loan from Atletico Madrid in July, starting every one of Wolves’ 12 Premier League games under Nuno Espirito Santo while simultaneously forcing his way into the senior Spain squad.

But with the former Celta Vigo ace now set for a spell on the sidelines, it remains to be seen whether Wolves will press ahead with their attempts to convince Atletico Madrid to sell.

Surely now the better idea is to wait until the end of the season and see how Jonny recovers from this setback before investing a large sum of money. The Birmingham Mail reports that Atletico would want a substantial profit on a player they signed for £6.2 million just a few months ago (AS).

For now, it seems that Wolves fans are set for an anxious wait to determine the future of their stand-out full-back.
