Championship giants Leeds United and relegated Sunderland are keen on Jon Nolan, who has shone in League One for Shrewsbury Town.

If Jon Nolan leaves Shrewsbury Town this summer, he will certainly go out with a bang.

The Mirror (19 March, page 47) reported that Leeds United are interested in the goal-scoring midfielder while the Shropshire Star has also linked Sunderland with a summer swoop, the relegated Black Cats having put together a list of targets proven at League One level.

Nolan scored nine goals for a Shrewsbury side who stunned English football by fighting for promotion to the Championship this season and will now contest the play-offs.

On paper, the former Everton youngster would be a sensible addition to Leeds’ squad given that the Whites have hardly scored goals for fun from the centre of midfield this season.

And Nolan’s reputation has been enhanced further with a memorable night at Shewsbury’s end of season awards evening.

The 26-year-old swept the board after a dazzling debut season at New Meadow, picking up five gongs overall.

As reported by the Shropshire Star, Nolan won the Official Supporters’ Club player of the year, the OSC away player of the year, family stand player of the year, Away Travel Club player of the year and Super Blues player of the year.

And Nolan’s season could get better still, should Shrewsbury navigate the play-offs to reach the second tier for the first time in their 132-year history.
