Should John Terry consider Rodgers reunion at Celtic?

John Terry knows Brendan Rodgers well from their time at Chelsea – and a reunion at Celtic could give the 36-year-old a fitting send off.

John Terry may still be the most recent graduate from Chelsea’s academy to actually make a first-team place his own but that was not for Brendan Rodgers’ lack of trying. The Northern Irishman served as reserve team coach at Stamford Bridge between 2004 and 2008, launching the careers of a number of Premier League players – albeit none of which were given much of a chance at Chelsea.

And Rodgers certainly left his mark on the long-serving Chelsea captain who, after over 700 games and 16 major trophies, will leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

“He is a great manager and was brilliant for me and the other players. I can only speak highly of him,” Terry told The Independent back in 2013. “A couple of times I was left out of the side or injured and he’d pull me to one side. He did a nice little video of me scoring goals, making tackles and had a 15 to 20 minute chat with me.

“At the time it was something nobody had ever done and it just goes to show his man-management and how well he’s doing and how well he’ll do in the future.”

“Its little things like that which really gives you a boost when you’re down. He was a real gentleman.”

After a long season stuck on the substitute’s bench, Terry could certainly do with a boost as he prepares to bring the curtain down on 19 seasons in the Chelsea first-team. Therefore, perhaps a reunion with Rodgers north of the border cannot be discounted.

Betfair claim that Celtic are in the running for the 36-year-old’s signature and, although he is understood to be keen on remaining in the Premier League, Terry and the Scottish Champions appear a match made in heaven.

Terry, after all, is a natural born winner and Celtic, one game away from a domestic treble, would feed the centre-back’s addiction for silverware. Scrapping in the middle of the Premier League with West Brom, the apparent frontrunners, may not appeal to a player with Terry’s CV.

Furthermore, Celtic is arguably the only destination that could offer Terry Champions League football – not to mention a manager who will do anything to give him the send-off he deserves.
