Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United can go top of the Championship table if they beat Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday.

Leeds United could hardly have any more motivation to beat Blackburn Rovers in Saturday’s lunchtime clash.

A victory at Ewood Park would put The Whites top of the Championship table, at least until West Brom and Sheffield United take to the field later in the weekend.

But three points is far from guaranteed. Blackburn have been very strong at home and Tony Mowbray’s hard-working unit could strangle a Leeds side renowned for their intelligent link-play and possession-based style.

And, speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Rovers midfielder Joe Rothwell has disclosed how Blackburn are planning to get an impressive result against Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

“Leeds have started really well, they’re a team that loves to press,” said the former Manchester United youngster. “They’ve got the highest stats for running so we’re going to have a real game on our hands.

“It’s how we try to play as well. We’ve put teams on the back foot with our intensity and pressing.

“When we get on the ball, it’s doing the right thing. Hopefully on Saturday we can do that.”

After a staggering start to the season which included comfortable wins against Stoke City and Derby County, Leeds’ form has slipped in recent weeks with just two victories in their last seven Championship games.

But the long-awaited returns of Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez will give Leeds far more cutting edge in attack.
