Championship outfit Aston Villa and Premier League strugglers Southampton were both reportedly keen on Swansea City centre-back Joe Rodon.

Joe Rodon has been one of the breakthrough starts of this Championship season and his impressive displays at the heart of Swansea City’s defence seemingly caught the eye of both Aston Villa and Southampton.
According to The Sun, The Saints and The Villans are big fans of the 21-year-old with a new centre-half a top priority for both sides. Southampton have looked shaky at the back this season with Wesley Hoedt and Jannick Vestergaard struggling to convince as a partnership while it is well documented that Aston Villa never really replaced John Terry.
And Rodon, one of the most promising young defenders in British football who combines strength and physicality with an impressive passing range, looked a good fit for both clubs.
But in a massive boost to Swansea, both Villa and Southampton have just been left disappointed.

The boyhood Swans fanatic put an end to speculation over his future by inking a new contract until 2022 on Wednesday with manager Graham Potter telling the club’s official website that this is “fantastic news for everyone connected with the club.”
Fantastic news for Swansea but less so for Aston Villa and Southampton, who will now have to look elsewhere to add depth to their defence.
