Scottish Premiership challengers Rangers pulled off two coups when they signed Jermain Defoe from Bournemouth and Steven Davis from Southampton.

Scotland legend Joe Jordan has hailed Rangers for managing to secure the signatures of Steven Davies and Jermain Defoe during the January transfer window – and has compared the Ibrox newcomers to two of his former Leeds United team-mates.
It was a hugely encouraging month for The Gers, who managed to bring former captain and three time Scottish Premiership champion Davis back to Ibrox from Southampton before snapping up 36-year-old Defoe, one of the most lethal goalscorers of his generation.
And Jordan believes that Davis and Defoe will bring experience and a winning mentality to Glasgow – potentially providing the platform for a brilliant dressing room atmosphere like he experienced at Leeds in the 1970s.
“We had a dressing room that was fairly self-policing at Leeds,” the 52-time former Scotland international told The Herald.
“Guys like Jackie Charlton, Billy Bremner, Johnny Giles, they were players who would often voice their opinions.
“As strong as (legendary Leeds manager) Don Revie was to handle all of those characters, it would have been the players it came down to when it came to what was needing to be said. That went on to the training ground as well. Revie wasn’t the one to give rollickings, it was the players themselves who set the standards on a day to day basis.

“I got it from guys like Bremner, Giles and Charlton. Steven Gerrard will look to get it from Defoe and Davis.”
Rangers are dreaming of a first league title since 2012 and are within touching distance at the top, despite losing 2-1 away to Kilmarnock on their first Premiership fixture since the winter break.
There is little doubt that Davis and Defoe, who scored on his debut against Killie, will bring huge improvements to The Gers both on and off the pitch between now and the end of the season.
