Nottingham Forest paid a record £13million to sign Carvalho from Benfica last summer but he has been in and out under Martin O’Neill.

Joao Carvalho has suggested that he has no interest in leaving Nottingham Forest this summer despite being heavily linked with a move to Olympiakos, while speaking to the club’s official website.

The Portuguese playmaker moved to the City Ground from Benfica last summer for a club record £13 million, as reported by the BBC, but he has found himself in and out of the team since Martin O’Neill replaced Aitor Karanka in January.

There is no question marks about Carvalho’s ability, however, with the 22-year-old taking his tally of assists to eight in recent victories against both Middlesbrough and QPR.

According to SDNA, Olympiakos, the 44-time Greek Superleague champions, were planning to offer the youngster an escape from Championship football over the summer but it seems that he is planning for another season in the famous red shirt instead.

“I want to score more and assist more and I want to beat all my personal records next season. This season has been a good season but I want to do better. I know I can do it so I hope I will play more and get more goals and assists to help the team,” Carvalho said.

“Of course, it is disappointing no to get in the play-offs. We had a lot of chances to get there but we have fallen short. We have to learn with these games and next season we can use this experience to get into the play-offs and do better.

“The determination has always been there, we had that this season but we didn’t have that experience of the games with the pressure to get where we wanted to. Next season will be good because we will have that experience and I think we will be pushing for the play-offs.”

Forest fans have often taken aim at O’Neill for his pragmatic approach since taking over at the City Ground four months ago, with the former Republic of Ireland boss’s usage of Carvalho seemingly epitomising his lack of adventure in the final third.

But a strong end to the season has seen Carvalho finally force his way into Forest’s XI, having started their last two Championship fixtures.
