Ryan Kent has impressed for Rangers but should Old Firm rivals Celtic snap him up from Liverpool.

Jim Duffy believes Celtic should consider signing Ryan Kent this summer with Old Firm rivals Rangers likely to be priced out, while speaking to the Superscoreboard on Clyde 1 (27 March, 6:00pm).

The fleet-footed winger has impressed in Scotland during the 2018/19 season, scoring five goals and providing a further nine assists during a loan spell at Rangers from Steven Gerrard’s former employers Liverpool.

But, with the Reds demanding £12 million for Kent this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo, it is reported that Rangers are unlikely to pursue a permanent move for a player they would surely have loved to keep.

And Duffy, the Glasgow-born Dumbarton manager who started his playing career at Celtic, believes his old club should consider a big bid for the one-time England U20 international.

“He’s a Liverpool player and yes, he’s played for Rangers but he’s not a Rangers fan,” Duffy said.

“I think Ryan Kent is certainly not the finished article and he’s got a lot to learn. His final ball, he’s got to create and assist more, he’s got to score more goals.

“If it was somewhere around the £7m mark then it might be an investment for Celtic.”

Unfortunately for Duffy, Kent is likely to cost a lot more than that.

A £12 million price-tag would make him the most expensive player in Celtic’s history, though the Scottish Premiership champions should still have funds left over from Moussa Dembele’s big-money sale to Lyon last summer.

And seeing Kent in the green and white of Celtic would be sickening for Rangers fans.
