The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has been linked with an exit from the club this month.
Tottenham’s assistant manager Jesus Perez spoke to reporters about victor Wanyama’s return from injury, and seemed to hint that the midfielder will not be sold this month, as quoted by Football.London.
According to a report from the Daily Mail last month, Spurs are keen to cash in on the Kenyan during the January transfer window, with Mauricio Pochettino growing tired of his injury problems.
Perez’s latest comments seem to suggest that Wanyama will remain at the club this month, however.
The Tottenham assistant boss spoke to Football.London, and shared how the 27-year-old is progressing well in his return from injury, suggesting that he could be back and available in two weeks time:
“He is in his rehab programme and is working on the field for a few days. He is progressing. We don’t know how long it is going to take to be back in the team but he is on the field training. There haven’t been any setbacks. He had the problem and he always just needed time to get in the right direction but he is not inside, not hiding, so we will see probably in two weeks if he is ready to train or start to train.”
Wanyama joined Tottenham from Southampton in the summer of 2016, and has gone on to rack up 78 appearances in all competitions for the north London outfit.
On his day, the former Celtic ace is a real powerhouse, and Spurs surely should not give up on him just yet, especially considering the fact that Mousa Dembele’s contract is set to expire in the summer.
Whether Mauricio Pochettino shares that option, however, remains to be seen.
