Jeremy Toljan is playing Scottish Premiership football with Celtic after falling out of favour in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund.

Jeremy Toljan has admitted that he is hoping to return to Borussia Dortmund when his loan spell at Celtic came to an end, speaking to Goal.

Dortmund paid £4.3 million to sign Toljan from Hoffenheim after he shone in Germany’s European U21 Championships win in the summer of 2017 but his career at the Signal Iduna Park never really got off the ground.

After a disappointing debut season, things only got worse for the full-back when Lucian Favre was appointed as Dortmund’s manager. Toljan did not make a single Bundesliga appearance in the first half of the season under Favre and was farmed out to Celtic in January.

So far, the 24-year-old has found game time much easier to come by in Scotland but it seem that he is not exactly angling for a permanent move to the Premiership champions.

“Next summer I still have three years on my contract with Dortmund,” Toljan said.

“So I expect to play for Dortmund again. I will take the situation as it is and will try to get back in the team.”

Toljan may be handed a second chance given that Dortmund are unlikely to hang onto Achraf Hakimi, the Moroccan international who is on loan from Real Madrid and remains highly rated at the Bernabau.

According to the Scottish Sun, Celtic have no option to sign Toljan on a permanent basis in the summer.
