Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure is the ideal candidate to replace Mousa Dembele at Tottenham Hotspur.

Watford looked to have pulled off a real coup warding off interest in Abdoulaye Doucoure during the summer transfer window.
Many expected the Frenchman to move on to arguably bigger things after a stellar 2017/18 season at Vicarage Road, but Doucoure stuck around and has shone ever since. The 25-year-old was at his powerful and imposing best as Watford completed a shock 2-0 win away at Wolves on Saturday, moving up to seventh in the Premier League table.
No wonder Tottenham Hotspur have allegedly been keen. Mauricio Pochettino was spotted in the stands as Watford thrashed Chelsea 3-0 in the spring, with Doucoure the star of the show.
The Watford Observer then claimed in August that Tottenham were the most likely side to make a move for the former Granada loanee, who Watford value at a hefty £45 million.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp has lauded Doucoure in comments that should only encourage Spurs to make a move in the New Year.

“Abdoulaye Doucoure is the most under-rated midfielder in the Premier League. He is the sort of player I would hate to play against. He is like a marathon runner the way he covers so much ground,” Redknapp said.
“Doucoure has run 63.6 miles this season, more than any other Watford player. He scores vital goals, has an eye for a pass and does not shy away from a tackle.”
Given Watford’s flying start to the season, Javi Gracia will be desperate for Doucoure to stick around. But, with every week that passes, the rangy enforcer is looking more and more like the perfect man to replace Mousa Dembele in Tottenham’s engine room.
