Fulham’s red-hot Premier League striker Aleksandr Mitrovic has been tipped for a move to West London rivals Chelsea.

There are some fine strikers in English football. But since the start of 2018, no one in the top five divisions have scored as many goals as Aleksandr Mitrovic.

The man who could not get a game at Newcastle United has found the net with alarming regularity at Fulham. It was his 12 Championship goals that fired the Cottagers to promotion last season and he has performed beyond all expectations in the Premier League.

Mitrovic’s equaliser in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Watford was his fifth in six top flight games since he turned his loan move at Fulham to a permanent switch in the summer. No wonder Jamie Redknapp included him in his latest Team of the Week.

As a result, Chelsea are understood to have taken a keen interest in the Serbian international, according to the Mirror. And Redknapp believes that, if the chance arrives, Mitrovic should seize the opportunity to join Fulham’s West London neighbours.

“I believe he could play for one of the top Premier League clubs,” the former Tottenham and Liverpool midfielder told the Mail.

“Fulham fans won’t thank me for saying this but he would be a perfect fit for Chelsea. Mitrovic is more physical than Alvaro Morata and has more pace than Olivier Giroud. As a successor to Didier Drogba and Diego Costa, Mitrovic could fit the bill.”

There has been plenty of talk about Chelsea’s lack of a top level centre forward in recent months. Giroud and Morata both missed chances as Maurizio Sarri’s side dropped points for the first time this season in Sunday’s goalless draw at West Ham.

And an in-form centre forward like Mitrovic would certainly fill a gap in Chelsea’s squad.
