Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final but could Jurgen Klopp’s side look to nab one of Mauricio Pochettino’s star players?

Jamie O’Hara has tipped Liverpool to pour salt in Tottenham Hotspur’s wounds by making a move for Christian Eriksen this summer, speaking to Sky Sports News (3 June, 1.30pm).

Spurs were denied their first trophy since the 2008 League Cup when they suffered a heart-breaking 2-0 defeat against Jurgen Klopp’s charges in Saturday’s Champions League final, despite dominating possession and arguably having the better of the chances.

And after a loss which leaves Mauricio Pochettino still looking for the first trophy of his managerial career, Tottenham could struggle to hang onto some of their biggest stars with Eriksen’s contract due to expire in 12 months’ time.

So far, Spurs have been unable to tie the Danish playmaker down to a long-term deal with The Standard reporting that Real Madrid and Manchester United are circling.

But O’Hara, who started his career at White Hart Lane, believes Liverpool could look to make life even worse for Tottenham by nabbing one of their key men.

“(Liverpool) need a central midfielder player. I’ve got a sneaky suspicion that they might try and take Eriksen from Tottenham as he’s in the last year on his deal,” O’Hara said. “He’s the type of player they need.”

He certainly is. If there is one player Liverpool are lacking, it is a top class number ten capable of providing the creativity Philippe Coutinho offered while fitting into Klopp’s famously high-octane style of play. Eriksen ticks a lot of boxes.

The Standard reports that Tottenham could be forced to cash in if they receive an offer of £60 million.
