Matt Doherty has shone in his debut Premier League season but Wolverhampton Wanderers’ unsung hero was left out for Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold.

Jamie O’Hara has hit out at a rather two-tone PFA Team of the Year, telling Jim White on talkSPORT (26 April, 10:00am) that Matt Doherty of Wolverhampton Wanderers should have been in contention for a place.
Given that Liverpool and Manchester City have been a cut above in the Premier League, it is little surprise that the North West rivals have dominated the end-of-season XI.
But with just one player outside of The Etihad or Anfield included, Manchester United’s Paul Pogba no less, plenty have questioned whether the Team of the Year should reflect the more under-the-radar achievements from elsewhere in the division.
Republic of Ireland international Doherty has been a revelation in his first ever Premier League season after all. Playing in his favoured right-wing-back role, Nuno Espirito Santo has eked every bit of attacking quality out of his swashbuckling star, who has contributed four goals and six top flight assists.

He even hit the back of the net with a header in Wolves’ 3-1 thrashing of Arsenal on Tuesday. But does Doherty deserve a player in the Team of the Year ahead of Liverpool’s baby-faced set-piece specialist Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Former Wolves star O’Hara certainly thinks so.
“Matt Doherty has had an amazing season at Wolves, he’s been incredible. Wolves have done brilliantly this year.”
