West Ham United defender James Collins is said to be close to re-signing at the London Stadium.

West Ham’s defence has proven to be vulnerable so far this season, so sending a viable option out on loan could have been inadvisable.
However, if Collins returns, then West Ham’s desire to move Oxford out makes more sense.

West Ham know what they are getting from Collins, as he was so reliable for them over a number of years.
Although he is 35, Pellegrini is likely to feel that selecting the Welsh international is far less risky than putting such an inexperienced youngster such as Oxford into West Ham’s starting line-up.
And if Collins does return that could open the door for Oxford to go out on loan to get first-team experience.
