Jimmy Dunne is unbeaten in 10 League One games for Sunderland but was left out when Walsall came to the Stadium of Light.

Jack Ross has admitted that Burnley loanee Jimmy Dunne has had a mixed time at Sunderland after dropping the defender for Saturday’s 2-1 win against Walsall, as reported by the Shields Gazette.
The 21-year-old centre-back joined the Black Cats until the end of the season in January, having impressed in the first half of the campaign during a spell north of the border with Hearts.
So far, Dunne has featured in ten League One games and Sunderland are unbeaten with the Irishman at the heart of their back line.
But that did not stop Ross from dropping him when Walsall came to the Stadium of Light, the Scottish coach choosing to partner Tom Flanagan with Jack Baldwin instead.
“I’ve been pleased with how Jimmy has done,” Ross said. “He’s been up and down at times.
“It was slightly hard on him because he was part of a good defensive performance at Barnsley (in last week’s 0-0 draw) but I just felt as if Saturday would be a very different game and it might be better suited to Jack [Baldwin] and Tom [Flanagan, below left].”

Lee Cattermole and marquee January signing Will Grigg were on the score sheet, as Sunderland sealed what could be a vital win as they aim to secure an immediate return to the Championship.
Sunderland are third, two points behind Barnsley in the automatic promotion positions with a game in hand.
