Celtic and Premier League giants Newcastle United are just two of the clubs who reportedly have an interest in Dundee starlet Jack Hendry.
Celtic saw a £500,000 bid for Jack Hendry rejected out of hand by Dundee in late December, as reported by the Scottish Sun, but are not ready to give up just yet in their pursuit of the highly-rated centre-back.
According to the Daily Record, Celtic are preparing an £800,000 bid that they hope will be enough for Dundee to cash in on their prize asset. Brendan Rodgers will be disappointed, however, as the Scottish Premiership side have slapped a £1.5 million price-tag on Hendry’s head.
The report adds that several English sides have shown an interest in the former Wigan Athletic youngster, who has been likened to John Stones for his ball-playing style.
The Mail stated last month that Newcastle United were closely monitoring Hendry’s development north of the border. And although Rafa Benitez has been left frustrated once again with owner Mike Ashley’s refusal to invest in new players, Hendry is well within Newcastle’s budget at £1.5 million.
But while a fee may seem a little steep to Celtic, who bid £1 million less just a few weeks ago, Rodgers’ league leaders should have no qualms about trebling their offer for one of Scotland’s most talented youngsters.
After all, Hendry would not only reinforce a lightweight Celtic defence at present, he would also be an investment for the future.
And considering how much profit Celtic tent to rake in when selling players they bought on the cheap, the Hoops can be confident that they would earn far more than £1.5 million if Hendry fulfils his massive potential at Parkhead.
After a year or two at Celtic, Hendry could be worth £10.5 million.
