Jack Baldwin scored as Sunderland snatched an equaliser in Tuesday’s League One clash with Blackpool at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland defender Jack Baldwin has told the Chronicle that he was disappointed with his performance in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at home to Blackpool, despite scoring the equaliser at the Stadium of Light.
On paper, the former Peterborough United captain was one of Sunderland’s best players on the night as they were held to a disappointing draw by Terry McPhillips’ Tangerines.
It was his late header which rescued a point for Jack Ross’s side while he nearly set up a dramatic winner for Will Grigg with a perfectly weighted pass, only for the £4 million January signing to fire into the side netting from an open goal.
But Baldwin himself has taken the blame for Blackpool’s first-half strike, thundered home by Armand Gnanduillet, and believes he has a lot of room for improvement.
“It’s very frustrating because I find myself in the position again where I could have done a lot better for the opening goal and it kind of kicked the wind out of our sails a little bit,” the one-time Hartlepool United defender told the Chronicle.

“When I’m stepping out from the back my decision-making could be a lot better at times. I feel the pressure to be that person to make things happen and I haven’t always got to do that because we’ve got a lot of players who are a lot more comfortable on the ball and technically a lot better than I am.”
The fact Baldwin is so willing to accept the blame himself in front of the media highlights the sort of impressive leadership skills that earned him the armband during his time at Peterborough.
Sunderland have now won just two of their last eight League One matches.
