West Bromwich Albion are reportedly close to signing their third new goalkeeper of the summer: Simon Moore from Championship club Sheffield United.

Jonathan Bond might have realised that he probably didn’t move to West Bromwich Albion to be their first choice goalkeeper. But third choice? That is a different proposition entirely.

The 25-year-old former England youth international headed to The Hawthorns this summer after his contract at Peterborough United expired and he looked set to provide back-up to Sam Johnstone.

Johnstone, who signed for £6 million from Manchester United, was one of the Championship’s top goalkeepers during a loan spell at Aston Villa and looks set to start the 2018/19 season between the sticks.

But, after featuring in 37 League One games for Peterborough last season, could Bond now find himself stuck in the stands in the Championship?

The Birmingham Mail claims West Brom are set to raid Sheffield United for Simon Moore, who has been linked with the Baggies for the last few weeks.

The Mail (live blog, 9.54am) claimed last week that West Brom had made a bid for the 28-year-old former Cardiff City stopper. And the Birmingham Mail is now adding that Moore is edging closer to a move to the Midlands.

Moore proved himself in the Championship last season when sharing duties with Jamal Blackman, meaning he is perhaps better placed to provide competition for Johnstone. Which could leave Bond in a very difficult position already.
