Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw will miss the first six weeks of the Championship season – if only The Whites hadn’t sold Ronaldo Vieira

Marcelo Bielsa’s plans have just taken a hit on the eve of the new Championship season.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Adam Forshaw was expected to be a key component of Bielsa’s Leeds squad, having featured in pre-season in a new-look advanced midfield role. But just two days before the season’s opener at home to Stoke City, it is reported that the 26-year-old could miss the next six weeks with ankle ligament damage.

And the irony of this blow has not been lost on Leeds fans. After all, news of Forshaw’s injury emerged at pretty much the same time as Ronaldo Vieira was unveiled by Sampdoria.

Vieira was one of the most highly-rated academy prospects to emerge at Elland Road in recent years but has been surprisingly sold to the Serie A outfit for a fee of £6.2 million. But the 20-year-old’s presence in the Leeds squad would have come in very handy now with Forshaw’s (below) absence set to hit hart.

At least Leeds can call upon Lewis Baker, who impressed with his energy and dynamism after coming off the bench against Las Palmas in last Sunday’s pre-season clash. Mateusz Klich, who could be given a new lease of life under Bielsa, is also waiting in the wings.
