Lucas Moura could swap Ligue 1 glory with PSG for the Premier League, with Spurs linked with an eye-catching transfer coup.

Lucas Moura #7 of Paris Saint-Germain tries to break away from Radja Nainggolan #4 of AS Roma during the second half at Comerica Park on July 19, 2017 in Detroit, Michigan.

Talents as promising as Lucas Moura do not come around too often.

And with French TV station Telefoot stating that the PSG winger would be open to a move to North London this month, Spurs fans must be praying for the deal to get done.

After all, the Brazilian dribble-king is a sensational talent on his day who would immediately improve a Spurs side that should not be averse to adding a little dash of pace, skill and unpredictability.

And that is without mentioning the price-tag; it will cost just £26.7 million to sign a player who has won 16 trophies at PSG and boasts 36 caps for the five-time World Cup-winning nation.

So why on earth are Tottenham showing such a reluctance to put their hand in their pocket? According to Le 10 Sport, Spurs would rather sign the 25-year-old on loan for the rest of the season, but is this just another example of chairman Daniel Levy trying to scrimp and save?

Maybe there is a more concerning reason why the Premier League giants appear reluctant to make Lucas the fourth biggest signing in the club’s history.

Lucas, after all, is far from the world class winger PSG had hoped to sign when they beat Manchester United to his sought-after signature in January 2013. The Parisians invested £38 million on the latest Brazilian whizzkid, but like Robinho, Adriano, Kerlon and co, Lucas has never really become the superstar he was supposed to be.

He has been in and out of the PSG team ever since he signed, never really nailing down a starting place. And his five years in Paris have been characterised more by nearly moments and the odd flash of genius than any sustained level of performance.

Perhaps Tottenham are right to be a little wary of a player who infamously promises much but frequently delivers little.
