Premier League duo Southampton and Brighton have been linked with Stuart Armstrong, who is struggling somewhat at Scottish Premiership giants Celtic.

Stuart Armstrong has looked a shadow of last season’s vintage in recent months.

The Celtic ace was arguably the best midfielder in all of Scotland last season, plundering 17 goals in all competitions on route to an unbeaten domestic treble.

But after prolonged speculation about his future last summer, Armstrong simply has not been the same irrepressible force despite seemingly committing his future to Celtic with a new two-year contract signed back in August.

In 35 games this season, the former Dundee United man has just four goals and five assists to his name and should no longer be considered one of the first names on Brendan Rodgers’ team-sheet. And it seems that a decline in form has been reflected in his market value.

The Scottish Sun claimed in August of last year that Celtic then valued Armstrong at £10 million amid interest from Premier League duo Southampton and Brighton.

The Daily Record, however, now reports that the 25-year-old could be available for around £7 million this summer. And, like almost a year ago, Celtic will have a decision to make with one year remaining on Armstrong’s contract.

Despite a poor campaign at Parkhead by his very high standards, there should still be no shortage of English interest in a player who has the potential to be prolific from central midfield.
