Championship strugglers Aston Villa have been linked with many free-agent defenders but are they running out of options?

A new centre-back is still a top priority for Aston Villa. But it seems there are not many options left available to Steve Bruce in the free-agent market.
Bruce made clear his desire to bring John Terry back to Villa Park but, according to the Daily Star, the Villans were unwilling to meet his £65,000-a-week wage demands.
James Collins was also tipped to return to Villa Park but, in quotes reported by the Birmingham Mail, the 35-year-old admitted that he has been training with Ipswich Town and has been in contact with Stoke City.
Steven Caulker, meanwhile, is now hoping to earn a contract with Wigan, a week after West London Sport claimed he had been offered a trial with Villa.
So this should make Robert Huth all the more tempting. Like Terry, Collins and Caulker, the big German centre-back is out of contract and without a club having been released by Leicester City at the end of last season.

According to the Mirror, Huth is another defender on Steve Bruce’s radar and he would bring experience, leadership and above all quality and combativeness to a Villa side who have won just one of their last eight games in all competitions.
And the three-time Premier League champion suddenly looks like the best possible option for Aston Villa, with alternative options seemingly heading elsewhere.
