Newcastle United are reportedly confident of luring Atlanta United’s MLS Cup winner Miguel Almiron to the Premier League.

If Miguel Almiron has played his last game for Atlanta United, he has certainly signed off on the best possible note. The Paraguayan international inspired his side to a 2-0 win against Portland Timbers in the MLS Cup final on Sunday ahead of what seems like an inevitable move across The Atlantic.
The Sun reported last week that Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Almiron, with a loan deal lined up with an option to sign the assist-king for £15 million.
It is understood that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez and head coach Steve Nickson were increasingly confident that a deal can be done in the January transfer window.
And, in a further boost to The Magpies, it seems that Atlanta United have potentially paved the way for Almiron’s departure.

Speaking to TYC Sports, Gonzalo Martinez has confirmed that he is on his way to the MLS after scoring the clinching goal in River Plate’s dramatic Copa Libertadores triumph over arch rivals Boca Juniors on Sunday.
“I thought about it a lot with my family, with my representative. It’s a league that’s grown a lot and I hope to continue making history with this club,” Martinez said.
“[Atlanta] is the club that trusted in me.”
So with Martinez on his way, does this mean that Almiron’s replacement has been found already? From an outside perspective, it certainly seems like it with Almiron outgrowing the MLS pond.
