Is lightning going to strike twice for Crystal Palace’s Diego Cavalieri?

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri is in his second spell in the Premier League with Crystal Palace.

Diego Cavalieri did not make a single Premier League appearance for Liverpool between 2008 and 2010.

And the 35-year-old goalkeeper may be wondering whether lightning is about to strike twice at Crystal Palace, because the former Brazil international has not been seen since signing for the Eagles on a free transfer at the start of March with Wayne Hennessey and Julian Speroni still fighting it out for Roy Hodgson’s pick.

So Cavalieri, who was released by Fluminense at the end of 2017, is keen to show Hodgson that he can be trusted when called upon.

“It’s a short contract until the end of the season. It’s practically two more months. But you never know when you’ll get a chance. So the important thing is to be prepared,” Cavalieri, who played three times for Brazil, told ESPN.

“I need to show my potential, my professionalism too. Who knows, even if I don’t have the chance to play, you can get to the end of a contract and renew.

“So now the focus is on making up for lost time and trying to show my potential here day by day.”

As things stand, Cavalieri is up against it in his attempts to earn an extended deal at Selhurst Park.

After all, The Eagles already have a deal in place to sign Getafe’s Spanish shot-stopper Vicente Guaita at the end of this season so his arrival would only serve to keep Cavalieri well down the pecking order, per The Guardian.

Though with Hennessey and Speroni hardly the Premier League’s most reliable custodians, the veteran is right not to give up hope just yet.
