Nottingham Forest reportedly wanted to bring Leicester City’s 2016 Premier League champion Danny Simpson to the Championship in the summer window.

With Sam Byram injured and Saidy Janko struggling to build on a bright start to life at the City Ground, it seems that Nottingham Forest are hoping to sign a new right-back in the January transfer window – and have identified QPR’s newly prolific Angel Rangel as their number one target.
According to The Mirror (November 17, page 63), Forest were keen on the 35-year-old Spaniard in the summer and will look to sign him again in the New Year.
Rangel, who scored his first ever brace in QPR’s 2-2 draw at Stoke City on Saturday, is due to become a free agent in two months’ time. But that does not mean he’s on his way out of Loftus Road with QPR’s director of football Les Ferdinand telling Football London that he expects the former Swansea captain to stay.
Nottingham Forest, then, would be well served looking for alternatives. And, fortunately for Aitor Karanka, Danny Simpson could still be an option.

The Telegraph reports that Forest wanted to sign the 31-year-old on loan in the summer and Simpson has since failed to make a single first-team start for Leicester under Claude Puel. The out-of-favour defender is also due to become a free agent at the end of this season.
Simpson, a Premier League champion in 2016, is now behind Ricardo Pereira and Daniel Amartey in the pecking order and, while the Telegraph reports that he’s keen to earn a new contract at Leicester, a short-term spell at Forest would perhaps be the better idea with his game time severely restricted.
