Rangers reportedly made three bids to bring Jamie Walker to Ibrox but Scottish Premiership rivals Hearts wouldn’t budge – now he’s at Peterborough United.
In the end, everyone grew tired of the will-he-won’t-he saga involving Jamie Walker and Rangers.
The Hearts winger was linked with a move to Ibrox for what felt like every waking hour of the 2017 summer transfer window with the Daily Record claiming that The Gers had seen three bids rejected, the biggest standing at £600,000.
Hearts, who wanted around £1 million for their fleet-footed talisman, refused to budge.
In the end, Walker never got his move to Ibrox and only left Tynecastle in January 2018 when Wigan Athletic finally paid a fee that Hearts were happy to accept.
But, over a year on, should the 25-year-old be ruing missing out on a move to one of the biggest clubs in Scotland? Things haven’t exactly gone to plan for Walker south of the border after all.
The former Scottish U21 international made just eight appearances for Wigan as they raced to the League One title in May and, since being loaned out to Peterborough United, has continued to find starts hard to come by.
Walker was left on the bench for the second game in a row as Peterborough beat AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday night and took to Instagram in an apparent dig at his manager, the outspoken Steve Evans.
It would be no surprise, then, if Walker is wondering how things might have turned out at Rangers with Steven Gerrard seemingly getting the Glasgow giants back on track after years of underachievement.
