Jak Alnwick has only made one Scottish Premiership appearance in over a year at Ibrox giants Rangers.
Jak Alnwick joined Rangers from Port Vale for £250,000 in January 2016. But, in 14 months at Ibrox, the goalkeeper has only ever made one appearance in the Scottish Premiership.
Mark Warburton, Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty have all stuck with Wes Foderingham as the club’s number one, meaning Alnwick has been forced to settle for the odd cup cameo every few months.
So you could hardly blame the former Newcastle United youngster if he wanted to leave in the summer in search of the first-team football that simply does not look possible with Foderingham around.
And the presence of 22-year-old Liam Kelly behind him in the pecking order could put Alnwick’s position at Ibrox into further doubt.
The Scotland U21 international might not have made his senior bow yet for the Glasgow giants, but he is waiting patiently in the wings for an opportunity after spending the last two seasons on loan at East Fife and Livingston.
Kelly was particularly impressive at Livingston in 2016/17, making 34 appearances as the club cruised to the third tier title with the league’s best defensive record. Kelly conceded less than a goal a game on average.
And with Graeme Murty, Rangers’ former youth coach, now in charge of first-team affairs, it would be little surprise if Kelly gets given a chance. Some supporters clearly hope he does after making a number of eye-catching saves in a video published on the club’s official Twitter account.
So maybe Alnwick should be looking over his shoulder.
