Club Brugge’s Laurens De Bock could be heading to the Championship with Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers going head-to-head.
Some sections of the Leeds United fan base have been quite vocal in their frustration about the club’s transfer activity since Victor Orta was appointed as Director of Football at the start of last summer.
The lack of a natural left-back to replace Charlie Taylor was one of the most understandable concerns, leaving manager Thomas Christiansen to trial a number of players in the position once it became clear that Manchester United loanee Cameron Borthwick-Jackson simply was not up to scratch.
But according to Belgian publication HLN, Orta and co are at least taking major strides to solve the problem. The report states that Club Brugges’ Laurens De Bock has an agreement to join Leeds in January.
A former Belgium under-21 international, De Bock has played his entire career at left-back and would finally give Christiansen a specialist in the position.
Leeds, however, are not the only Championship side keen on the 25-year-old. Because Voetbal Krant state that league leaders Wolves are also interested in bringing De Bock to England, despite the outstanding performances of Barry Douglas.
It is understood that Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo is determined to win the race.
But it is vital that Leeds win the race for De Bock. Some fans may have their doubts, a number of Orta’s imports have been major flops after all while Brugge have only trusted him to start four league games all season.
De Bock, however, could fill a gaping void in Leeds’ squad and be Taylor’s long-term successor. His signing would allow Leeds to tick off one of the main tasks of their January to-do list.
