Everton have made uncovering Europe’s top young talent a priority – though Spurs, Aston Villa and Manchester United appear to be frontrunners for Mikolaj Bieganski.
There doesn’t seem to be many young players that Everton are not chasing at the moment – at least according to media speculation.
With Steve Walsh hired to uncover some of the most exciting talents in world football, and improve an already impressive Everton academy side who lifted the Premier League 2 title last season, The Toffees have spent the last few months scouring the continent for rough diamonds.
And with ESPN reporting that interest in young Polish goalkeeper Mikolaj Bieganski rising, you wonder how long it will be before Everton throw their hat into the ring.
The report claims that 15-year-old Bieganski, one of the brightest talents in Polish football, has caught the eye of a number of clubs across the continent after impressing for his nation’s Under-16 side.
Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are just three clubs reported to be interested in Bieganski, who represents Skra Czestochowa in Poland’s third tier. The report also added that the minnows are unlikely to stand in their prized asset’s way if he gets his big break abroad.
While Bieganski has a long way to go before he can even contemplate fighting for a place in the senior squad of one of England’s biggest teams, he is already hot property in the transfer market.
Everton, however, have been conspicuous by their absence so far. Though The Toffees have a hugely talented young goalkeeper themselves in current number one Jordan Pickford, Bieganski is exactly the kind of talent Everton have been targeting since Walsh arrived in 2016.
Everton paid big money to land the likes of Josh Bowler and Lewis Gibson from QPR and Newcastle United respectively, even though they had only made one senior appearance between them.
It seems almost inevitable, then, that Bieganski will be on The Toffees’ radar, as the club continue to build the club for the long term.
