Florian Jozefzoon reportedly rejected a move to Championship leaders Leeds United and end up at Derby County instead.
It seems that Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani was none too happy when Florian Jozefzoon rejected a move to Elland Road in order to sign for Derby County in August.
“We received the contract from the club (Brentford) and we had written approval from the agent,” Radrizzani told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“Then, on the way to the medical check here, they change ideas and go to another club. Honestly, I’m happy he didn’t come here. Good luck to him but we don’t want people like this.”
According to Voetbal International, Leeds had matched Derby’s £2.75 million bid for the then-Brentford winger, but Jozefzoon obviously believed that he was better off at Pride Park.
Three months later, however, has karma struck? The former PSV man has fallen out of favour at Derby in recent weeks, with Frank Lampard leaving him out of the match day squad for games against Bolton, Norwich and West Brom.
In fact, Jozefzoon has only started two games since mid-September with Lampard preferring to use the likes of Tom Lawrence and Harry Wilson in attack, leaving little room for an out-and-out winger like the Dutchman.
Suddenly, the decision to turn his back on Leeds looks like a slightly questionable one given that his direct style seemed a perfect fit for Marcelo Bielsa.
With Leeds four places and two points above Derby in the Championship table right now, the Whites will be hoping to maintain their lead in the months ahead.
