Rangers want Manchester United youngsters Ethan Hamilton and Scott McTominay on loan in January.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Scottish Cup Quarter final match between Rangers and Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium on March 4, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers appear to be shopping for a new midfielder in January and believe Manchester United is the perfect bargain outlet.

According to The Sun, Rangers are enquiring about both Ethan Hamilton and Scott McTominay ahead of a possible loan move until the end of the season.

A deal for Hamilton looks eminently possible with the powerful midfielder, the club’s former Under-18s captain, yet to make his mark in the first-team.

Far more likely that McTominay anyway with Jose Mourinho recently stating that the 20-year-old was set to play a big part in United’s first-team this season. A technically gifted and composed midfielder, McTominay has made a real impression in 2017/18 and shone on his Champions League debut against Benfica recently.

But there is another name who should also be on Rangers’ radar – England Under-20 star Demetri Mitchell. The youngster made his debut in the final game of last season against Crystal Palace and, after making an impact during United’s pre-season tour of the USA, has shone for the club’s Under-23s this season.

Mitchell has four goals in ten games in 2017/18 and has shown real leadership skills and maturity after sampling a tantalising taste of the first-team in recent months.

And while he has often played at left-back this season, Mitchell is a natural winger who could fill a gap in Rangers’ squad that has been left unmanned after the departure of Barrie McKay and the subsequent failure to sign Hearts’ Jamie Walker.

If there’s one United starlet who moves to Ibrox this January, perhaps it should be Mitchell. Regular first-team opportunities could be exactly what he needs to take the next step.
