The Wolves attacker has become something of a forgotten man amid all the big-money signings and Iberian influx at Molineux. The 26-year-old, who was forced to cut short a loan spell at Burton Albion due to illness, has not made a single appearance for Wolves all season.
Colorado had a dreadful 2017 campaign, finishing just one point clear of LA Galaxy at the bottom of the Western Conference, and they are understandably keen to strengthen their squad in the off-season.
Interestingly, the Rapids have already raided Wolves once this year.
The similarly out-of-favour Jack Price swapped Molineux for Major League Soccer after becoming a victim of the Chinese revolution at Wolves, making only five league appearances off the bench in 2017/18.
Price is not the only former Wolves player to turn out at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Kevin Doyle spent two years in Colorado before retiring, so you could understand if Mason seized his chance to kick-start his footballing career across the pond.
Like Price, Mason cannot really be blamed for failing to keep up with the speed of change at Wolves and moving to the US should appeal, with it becoming clear that he has no route back into the first-team plans.
It is understood that the Rapids could sign Mason on a 12-month loan deal and, should he impress, he might find himself the subject of some rather enticing offers.
