Celtic lost 2-1 at Easter Road against Hibernian in a pulsating Scottish Premiership clash on Saturday with Jack Hendry coming in for criticism again.
Jack Hendry would have hoped to have made a more positive impression in his first three months at Celtic.
The £1.5 million January signing from Dundee has made nine appearances for the Scottish Premiership champions but has found himself the target of some rather brutal criticism of late.
The Hoops lost 2-1 at Hibernian on Saturday, meaning they will have to wait at least another week for a seventh successive league title.
22-year-old Hendry, who made his Scotland debut last month, was beaten in the air as Hibs’ Vykintas Slivka sealed an impressive victory at Easter Road, and Celtic fans took to Twitter to criticise their new man, many claiming that he will never make the grade at the runaway league leaders.
But maybe Celtic fans should look at manager Brendan Rodgers before they proclaim that Hendry is ‘totally out of his depth’.
After all, Rodgers has frequently used Hendry in an unfamiliar right-back role since he arrived at the club in January, despite the fact the former Wigan Athletic youngster had played the entire first half of the campaign as a centre-back.
So the criticism that came Hendry’s way following that loss to Hibs should be tempered by the fact that Rodgers did not play him in his preferred position.
It seems a little unfair to judge him in a role he is not fully comfortable with. Time will tell, however, whether Rodgers has learned his lesson and will give Hendry a chance to prove himself at centre-back instead.
