Championship giants Leeds United wanted to sign Sam McQueen from Premier League strugglers Southampton before landing Laurens de Bock

With just one month remaining in the Championship season, Leeds United have managed to go through an entire campaign without an established first-choice left-back.
The departure of Charlie Taylor to Burnley last year has caused no end of problems at Elland Road. Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Laurens de Bock both failed to fill the void when signing from Manchester United and Club Brugge respectively, while Vurnon Anita and Gaetano Berardi haven’t exactly thrived in the position either.

So with Sam McQueen struggling for opportunities at Southampton, Leeds should really consider making a new move for the versatile Saint at the end of this season.
The Sun (8th January, page 60) reported that McQueen was on Leeds’ radar before they completed the £1.5 million signing of De Bock, who has struggled badly and hasn’t featured since the 2-2 draw with Reading a month ago.

23-year-old McQueen, too, has found first-team opportunities hard to come by. He has started only one Premier League game all season, making five appearances overall, and has not been seen since the turn of the year. He has even been left out of the matchday squad for every league fixture so far in 2018, with his only appearances coming for the U21s.
So McQueen will be chomping at the bit for more chances next season, and a belated move to Leeds could work out very well for all parties.
