While Premier League giants West Ham United are suffering from an injury crisis, Robert Snodgrass is starring in the Championship with Aston Villa.

West Ham United may have written off Robert Snodgrass a little too soon.

The Scotland international only started eight Premier League games for the Hammers after his January 2017 arrival from Hull City. And, despite the fact he was being played out of position and barely given time to adapt to a new team, the London club wasted no time in farming him out on loan to Aston Villa in the summer.

But anyone who has watched Snodgrass in action of late will be able to explain exactly why West Ham tried to re-call him in January.

As reported by Sky Sports, David Moyes wanted to bring the 30-year-old back to the London Stadium but was unable to do so as there is no break clause in Snodgrass’s Villa contract.

Although West Ham’s loss is most definitely Villa’s gain. Because Snodgrass has scored or assisted eight goals in his last eight Championship games, and was at it again when he put a goal on a plate for Albert Adomah in Villa’s 3-2 win against Burton Albion at the weekend.

Snodgrass, a set-piece specialist with a wand of a left foot, has been one of the best players in the Championship since the turn of the year and Moyes must be ruing West Ham’s decision to give up on him after just a few months in the capital.

The Hammers are in the midst of an injury crisis right now and Snodgrass could have provided the firepower in the absence of Marko Arnautovic, Michail Antonio and co.

Instead, he is leading Villa’s charge to possible promotion.
