Andy Firth moved to Ibrox from non-league Barrow in the January transfer window but the goalkeeper has not played for the Scottish Premiership side yet.
Rangers certainly raised eyebrows during the January transfer window.
Two Premier League veterans arrived on loan in the shape of Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis, who won three domestic titles during his first spell at Ibrox, while the Gers also raided Dundee and Kilmarnock for Glen Kamara and Jordan Jones.
There was one other signing, however – one that has gone under the radar so far. The Ibrox giants sealed a shock deal for goalkeeper Andy Firth on an 18-month deal last month, the former Liverpool youngster arriving from non-league Barrow and reuniting with Steven Gerrard.
So far, the 22-year-old shot-stopper is yet to make an appearance and has been left out of the squad for each of Rangers’ last five games in all competitions.
But could he make his debut this weekend?
It is expected that Wes Foderingham will start between the sticks with Allan McGregor banned for the next two games after that unseemly clash with Lewis Ferguson in last week’s 4-2 win at Aberdeen.
But could Gerrard spin a surprise and give Firth his chance? The goalkeeper was snapped training with Rangers’ first-team on Friday on the club’s official website and he should be on the bench at the very least with St Johnstone set to arrive at Ibrox tomorrow.
