West Ham United could sell Andre Ayew back to Premier League rivals Swansea City – with Ki Sung-Yeung potentially going the other way.
West Ham and Swansea City could agree on a player exchange deal that could suit both parties down to the ground on paper.
Sky Sports claim that Swansea have offered a club-record £18 million to bring Andre Ayew back from the London Stadium – and it is understood that West Ham have also enquired about the prospect of midfielder Ki Sung-Yeung going the other way.
Now, Swansea are the Premier League’s lowest goalscorers so a deal for the intelligent attacking midfielder Ayew, who scored 12 goals in 34 games during his single 2015/16 season at the Liberty, would be well received.
West Ham, meanwhile, have been on the lookout for midfield reinforcements all month so Ki would give David Moyes some added depth in the centre of the park.
But there is a nagging feeling that this is a rather lopsided deal – with Swansea getting far more out of it than West Ham.
The Swans will have to pay a huge fee to re-sign Ayew with West Ham hoping to recoup the £20 million they splashed out in the summer of 2016. But the Ghanaian international has the talent and the skill-set to be exactly the kind of signing that could save Swansea’s Premier League status.
He offers goals from midfield and the ability to find a pocket of space inside the box, not to mention open up an opposition defence. Not a bad addition, then, for a side struggling for creativity and ruthlessness.
Interest in Ki, however, feels like West Ham are scraping the barrel having failed in moves for Jonjo Shelvey, Harry Arter, Joe Allen and many more over the last few weeks.
Would Ki, a squad player at Swansea, really improve Moyes’ first-team? Not in comparison to the impact Ayew could make in South Wales.
