Troy Parrott is yet to make his Premier League debut but Mauricio Pochettino must be thrilled by the Tottenham Hotspur youngster’s rapid rise.
Tottenham Hotspur striker Troy Parrott added to his growing reputation with a clinical brace against Sweden on Tuesday night and Ireland U21 boss Stephen Kenny was understandably thrilled with the contribution of the country’s new rising star, speaking to The 42.
2019 is shaping up to be a breakthrough year for the Dublin-born 17-year-old.
Parrott was rewarded with a key role in Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team during pre-season after scoring 19 times in 27 games at youth level last season, and the teenager rewarded his manager’s faith with some particularly eye-catching displays against the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup.
But Pochettino isn’t the only coach who’s been blown away by a striker who appears to have it all.
Parrott showcased his predatory poaching instincts as he came off the bench to stun Sweden in a dramatic U21 European Championship qualifier, slamming in from close range before sealing a 3-1 win with a sublime chip. No wonder Kenny was thrilled.
“Troy Parrott was amazing to get the two goals that he did — two phenomenal goals. It’s great to witness that here, to see him come on and score two goals like that,” said Kenny after the game.
Parrott is yet to make his first-team bow for Spurs in a competitive fixture but, with two goals in one Premier League 2 game to his name this season (against Manchester City no less) the teenager appears to be quickly outgrowing his surroundings.
