Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham has been tipped to leave Ibrox and join Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn at Championship side Ipswich Town.

This time last year, Rangers sold both Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn to Rangers.

And, while the attacking duo had their fair share of critics at Ibrox, you would struggle to find many inside Portman Road who had a bad word to say about either.

Garner scored 10 goals in the Championship, quickly becoming a fan favourite thanks to his commendable work rate, while Waghorn was an absolute revelation in Anglia. The former Sunderland man netted 16 goals and set up a further 11.

Why Rangers sold Waghorn for less than £1 million, according to former Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy is anybody’s guess. But could the Gers be about to make history repeat itself?

According to the Scottish Daily Star (5 June, page 47) Ipswich are keen to raid Ibrox again for goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, who has been linked with the exit ever since it was reported that he had been dropped to third choice by new Rangers manager Steven Gerrard.

Foderingham has reportedly been lined up as a replacement for the exit-linked Bartosz Bialkowski.

But while the 27-year-old is far from universally popular in Glasgow, he has the makings of a fine Championship goalkeeper with his reach and reflexes both very valuable assets.

If Foderingham follows in the footsteps of Garner and Waghorn and shines in Ipswich colours, this will not reflect well on Rangers – particularly if Allan McGregor and Jak Alnwick fail to prove that they are an upgrade.
