Premier League hopefuls Liverpool have been linked with Borussia Monchengladbach’s Matthias Ginter while allegedly bidding for Real Sociedad’s Llorente.

Liverpool fans might have been a little worried about the prospect of Jurgen Klopp’s side navigating the final few months of a testing season with Joel Matip playing at centre-back.

The former Schalke defender was thrown into the limelight recently due to injuries to both Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren.

Considering that Matip’s first season at Liverpool had been dogged with some rather nervy performances, his sustained presence in the starting XI appeared to threaten Liverpool’s hopes of glory both at home and abroad.

But Matip has certainly risen to the challenge. Liverpool are unbeaten with the 27-year-old in their starting XI since the turn of the year with the Cameroon international keeping clean sheets against Everton, Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

Nonetheless, that does not mean he won’t be replaced when the time comes.

Calciomercato reports that Klopp wants to reunite with his former Borussia Dortmund defender Matthias Ginter in the summer with the Monchengladbach powerhouse tipped to succeed Matip at Anfield.

Liverpool have also made a £26 million offer to sign Real Sociedad’s Diego Llorente (above), according to Noticias de Gipuzkoa; a ball-playing Spanish international cut from the same cloth as the rangy Matip.

Klopp is an excellent man manager but he is ruthless, too. He upgraded Loris Karius before phasing out Daniel Sturridge and Xherdan Shaqiri. If an opportunity comes to replace Matip, he might just take it.
