Russell Martin played 15 Scottish Premiership games for Rangers since joining from Norwich City in January – and let in 26 goals.

Speaking to the Daily Record back in January, Russell Martin indicated that he was hoping to earn a permanent deal at Rangers after joining the Scottish Premiership giants on a short-term loan from Norwich City.
“Ideally I’ll do well enough to make Rangers say they want to keep me – and give Norwich a decision to make in the summer,” said the veteran Scotland international.
And, with the season and thus Martin’s loan spell having come to an end on Sunday, Rangers’ director of football Mark Allen claimed that no decision had been made yet about whether to keep the 32-year-old at Ibrox beyond this summer.

Though, if Rangers do decide to keep the 29-cap Scotland international, don’t expect fans to be dancing in the streets of Glasgow.
Martin had not played a single league game for five months before he arrived at Rangers in the New Year – and his form in the Scottish Premiership perhaps explains why. In a season of disastrous signings, some supporters would argue that Martin is right at the top next to Carlos Pena and Dalcio.

In 15 league games, Rangers conceded 26 goals with Martin playing at centre-back. An error-strewn display in the bizarre 5-5 draw against Hibernian on Sunday was perhaps the most fitting way to end what has been a distinctly disappointing loan spell.
While Allen might not have decided whether or not to sign Martin, many Rangers fans would happily make that decision for him.
