‘Imminent need’: Managing director says reported Everton and Arsenal target may be sold

Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton reportedly offered £12m for Palmeiras’ Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Veron – Premier League rivals Arsenal like him too.

Palmeiras may be forced to sell Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Veron this summer after Everton made a £12 million bid for the Arsenal target, managing director Cicero Souza has told Jorge Nicola on YouTube.

Some of the most talented teenagers in Brazil have agreed mega-money moves to a European giant in recent times and a fleet-footed forward who shot to fame at the U17 World Cup could be about to follow in the footsteps of Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo Goes, Antony and Richarlison.

Yahoo reported recently that Everton had offered £12 million for Veron’s services with Toffees director Marcel Brands, who discovered the likes of Dries Mertens, Hirving Lozano and Gini Wijnaldum in Holland, seemingly fixing his sights on another superstar-in-waiting.

Arsenal, too, are keen to add Veron to their growing Samba contingent with Veron valued at somewhere closer to £26 million.

In an ideal world, Palmeiras would love to keep hold of a player who the legendary Bebeto has labelled an ‘extraordinary talent’. But with the global health crisis plunging the world game into a period of unprecedented financial uncertainty, the word ‘ideal’ just doesn’t come into the equation.

“I think that the imminent need for a sale, whether it be from Veron or any other player, can only be done according to an evaluation in a month and a half, two months from now, when we will be more certain of what is to come,” Souza says, admitting that Palmeiras may have to listen to offers unless the situation improves, in quotes translated by ESPN.

“When football returns, how long will it take to have a box office again? How long will the gates be closed ?. We still don’t know. Perhaps there is a need for the sale (ofl Veron).”

A Brazilian starlet named after an Argentine great, former Manchester United and Chelsea playmaker Juan Sebastian Veron, the teenager would no doubt fulfil his substantial potential under an esteemed tactician like Carlo Ancelotti or Mikel Arteta in England.
