Juan Foyth gave away two penalties in Spurs’ Premier League win at Wolves and very nearly made the same mistake against Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur fans will rightly be basking in the glory of their 3-1 thrashing, and it was a thrashing, of bitter rivals Chelsea at Wembley.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were fast, fluid and ferocious as Maurizio Sarri’s defence was ripped to shreds in North London with Dele Alli, Harry Kane and the irrepressible Heung-Min Son all on target.
But it wasn’t all perfect. Juan Foyth, the centre-back who has come into the team in place of the injured Jan Vertonghen, very nearly cost his side and not for the first time with a naive and clumsy challenge from behind on Eden Hazard in the penalty area.
Martin Atkinson waved away any claims for a spot-kick – but the general consensus is that a defender who gave away two penalties against Wolves recently should have been penalised again.
And, speaking on Match of the Day (24 November, 10.30pm), Arsenal legend Ian Wright has pointed out that Foyth is developing a reputation for ill-timed challenges.

“Hazard is waiting for the contact but it’s clumsy. It’s in the box and it’s clumsy,” Wright said. “And we’ve seen this young guy do it before.”
Tottenham brought Foyth to England from Estudiantes for £9 million in the summer of 2017.
But the Argentine has made just three Premier League appearances since the start of last season and, with plenty of time on his side, should eradicate these mistakes from his game in time.
