The midfielder was in sublime form on Saturday, inspiring QPR’s comeback win against Cardiff City.
Yeni Ngbakoto played just 32 minutes of QPR’s 2-1 triumph over Cardiff City on Saturday. But that was all it took for the dynamic attacking midfielder to get fans salivating over the prospect of seeing him more regularly in the blue and white hoops, GetWestLondon reports.
Just four minutes after coming off the bench with the hosts a goal down to Sol Bamba’s first-half header, Ngbakoto finished off a fine team move with a flourish before his wicked corner set up Matt Smith for the winner.
This was only the 25-year-old’s 17th league appearance of the season but after starting Ian Holloway’s reign out of favour and enduring a tough debut season on English soil due to the death of his father, his game-changing performance against Cardiff feels like a breakthrough moment.
“Yeni had a terrible bereavement when he first signed here and I felt that affected him, but he is one of our family and a joy to work with,” Holloway told GetWestLondon.
“He has been very patient. I’ve asked him to do some fitness work behind the scenes and he has lost all sorts of poundage.
“He has made another statement there hasn’t he – pick me gaffer.”
He certainly has. And the QPR fans will certainly be excited at the prospect of seeing their highly-rated summer signing in the flesh on a more frequent basis in the upcoming weeks.
At times this season, the London club has lacked that moment of inspiration, a player with the ability to turn a draw or a defeat into a win. On Saturday’s evidence, however, Ngbakoto could be their go-to man from here on.
